A new dimension to Asheville Youth Rowing Association

Posted on August 2, 2026 |

For years, folks have asked us to form a recreational component to AYRA for kids who do not want to or cannot commit to practices due to other extracurricular activities.  We are going to try it this fall.

Recreational rowers will able to attend practice as often or as little as they like during regular practice hours but they will not be eligible to compete in races.    Dues will be the same as for competitive rowers since recreational rowers will have the same opportunity to attend practice as competitive rowers.

But they will need to take a learn to row class before joining AYRA.  Just register at our Learn to Row page on this website.

Congratulations to our AYRA alum Ellah Taylor

Posted on July 24, 2026 |

Ellah Taylor has been selected to be in the Women’s 8 for the US U19 National Team.  She has been training out in California since June and will leave to compete at World’s in Bulgaria on July 30.

Ellah came to AYRA as a 6th grader in 2020 and rowed with us until her family moved to Oak Ridge in the spring of 2022.  When she moved, Jack told her new coaches at Atomic Rowing that they were getting a future Olympian and she is certainly headed that way.

We see Ellah and her parents at races every fall and spring (along with their dogs!) and still miss her kind, humble and cheerful spirit.

Good luck Ellah and all of our U19 U.S. competitors.
